Westlake Village lies just west of the Valley on the 101 Freeway adjacent to the Ventura County line. This area has a similar history of other nearby cities in the Valley.
Plans for a master planned “city in the country” on the 12,000 acre ranch purchased from the Russell family began in 1963. Two portions of the pending Westlake Development consisting of approximately 8,500 acres were on the Ventura County side and was annexed into Thousand Oaks in 1968 and 1972.
The remaining 3,500 acres of the master planned community was incorporated into Los Angeles County as the City of Westlake Village in 1981. California law prevents a city from existing in two separate counties.
Westlake Village is not only an affluent bedroom community for Los Angeles, it is also home to several large commercial companies including Dole Food Company, K-Swiss and J.D. Power and Associates.
