Granada Hills, named after a city in southern Spain, is located in the northeast portion of the San Fernando Valley. The area shares a similar early colonization history as many of the parts of the Valley.

We can start this story from 1881, when George K Porter, founder of the city of San Fernando, CA (and namesake to what would become Porter Ranch in Northridge, CA) acquired much of the land in what would become Granada Hills and used this land for farming beans and wheat.

In 1917, J. H. Mosier purchased 4,100 acres from Mr. Porter and called it Sunshine Ranch, with about half the acres planted with various citrus trees. The ranch was later sold in 1925, to Suburban Estates and thus began the sub-dividing into lots for residences and businesses.

While not in Granada Hills, the Nethercutt Museum, founded in 1971 by J.B Nethercutt and his wife Dorothy in nearby Sylmar, is an absolute must visit. This museum is home to over 250 European and American impeccably restored antique automobiles.

Both J.B and his wife had a love affair with antique cars and in 1956, he purchased two automobiles badly in need of complete restoration: a 1933 Dusesnberg Convertible Roadster for $5,000 and a 1930 Dupont Town Car for $500. He thought the restoration of the latter would only take a few weeks. Unfortunately, the meticulous restoration took over 18 months and cost over $18,000.

In 1958, the meticulously restored Dupont won “Best of Show” at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. And by 1992, J.B.’s car had won six times at this prestigeous car show. Both of the above restored cars are part of the Nethercutt Collection at the Museum.

Watch the video below to get a sneak preview of these trul remarkable automobiles all restored to their original condition.
