Chatsworth is another suburban area adjacent to Canoga Park in the northwest part of the San Fernando Valley.
Before Padre Juan Crespi and other Spanish soldiers arrived in the San Fernando Valley in 1769, the region was home to Native Americans, some of whom left caves containing rock art. Chatsworth was explored and colonized by the Spanish beginning in the 18th century. The land became part of a Spanish land grant, Rancho Ex-Mission San Fernando, in the 1800s, and after the United States took over the land following the Mexican–American War, it was the largest such grant in California. Settlement and development soon followed.
Chatsworth, with its seven public and eight private schools, is favored by many parents with school age children. This suburb has one of the lowest population densities in Los Angeles and a relatively high income level. There is a good deal of open-space and smaller recreational parks, as well as a public library and a transportation center.
One fun thing to do is visit the Artvanta Art Museum that showcases a vast variety of modern artworks from around the world throughout the year like the one shown below – Alphabets – Reinvented and Vessels of light. Typically, there’s a mix of art on display including paintings and sculptures.

At the Library and Museum you’ll learn about the various periods of his life including his childhood, his movie career, his political career, his military service and his family life.
Chatsworth is also the home of the Iverson Movie Ranch, a 500-acre area which was the most filmed movie ranch in history, as more than 2,000 productions used it as a filming location.
To top off your day, you can’t leave Chatsworth without going to Les Sisters’ Southern Kitchen & BBQ for some New Orleans style Soul Food. Les Sisters’ has been serving excellent Canjun and Creole-influenced dishes for lunch and dinner for almost 40 years. Besides yummy sandwiches, burgers and poboys, Les Sisters’ is famous for its baby-backed ribs. black-eyed peas and rice, wings, southern fried chicken, cornbread and other barbecued items. They even serve Beignets all day on Sundays!
